September 2017

Thursday, September 14th, Umler was updated to provide more information to prepare for PTC.  Since last January, a total of 58 new or changed fields, many of which are mandatory.  Therefore, all locomotives in our files are currently showing errors which may prevent movement.  Contact us to get your units taken off the error list!  Most of these errors are fatal, if not corrected the computer will drop the unit(s) from Umler.  More Changes are coming!

Effective July 1, 2017

Due to the number of quote requests that we have received, then the group, person, company goes off and uses the information to do it themselves using GLR data without remunerating/paying for the data GLR, the following is Effective July 1, 2017 for all new GLR customers.  If you go forward with the project with GLR these fees will be applied to the project overall cost.

For all non-Umler projects with initial estimates to cost over $750, an upfront quote fee of $250 is required.  This fee will escalate as the size of the project goes up.  This fee is non-refundable if you decided not to use GLR.

An additional 20% will be required before any data other than grand total for the project would be released to you.

All quotes will be good for 30 days.

March 1, 2017

Starting in the 3rd or 4th quarter, Umler locomotive section will be updated to show more air brake types.  For those who have listed "other" as their air brake choice, you will need to select another air brake type because "other" will be deleted or Umler will declare your loco in conflict.

We have added a weight calculator to the Forms Page.  The calculator uses base line information that matches Amtrak's base line numbers.  If your car weight in Umler does not match Amtrak, this issue needs to be resolved.

A Message from Mr. Trombecky for ALL Amtrak private car owners:

To All car Owners

This is a very important message that you must respond to.  Many of the Host Railroads will be turning on a type of PC called I-ETMS.  The BNSF and CSX are preparing to activate with this type of PTC.  Attached is a list of the car numbers that we still require critical information for.  The weight requirement has changed since the first time we have asked for this information.  We will need the best loaded car weight for your cars.  This information will be required to be in the PTC data base for us to continue to add your cars to trains.

GLR interpretation on this is it includes all physical dimensions, brake system identification, and weight.  For Amtrak this is Gross Rail Load.  This does not match the weights in Umler.  We are working to correct that.
